White Rose Budo 5th Anniversary - 5th September 2024

Happy 5th birthday to White Rose Budo!

On 5th September 2024, White Rose Budo celebrated its 5th birthday since starting at Hellaby Centenary Hall. Whilst, the name White Rose Budo didn’t come until later, the sessions began with only seniors and less than a handful of students.

Today we have both a junior class with students from 5 years up to 13, and a senior class from 13 years up and a lot more students than back in 2019.

A lot has happened since then, with updated syllabus’s, dojo membership of the International Meibukan Gojyu Ryu Karate Association (IMGKA), a number of different gradings being held which has progressed our students, a £500 grant from the Tesco Community Grant Scheme, additional membership of the British Martial Arts and Boxing Association (BMABA) and a donation from Blitzsport, we don’t think we’ve done too bad for our first 5 years. Especially when less than 6 months after we began the country went into lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and didn’t know if we’d come out the other end.

We’ve made some amazing friendships from across the world, and across different styles over these years, and had the privilege of attending some amazing seminars and visiting some fantastic dojos in these 5 years, as well as welcoming karate-ka to ours, and we’ll continue this on.

To mark our 5th year we held a party at the dojo to not only celebrate the occasion but also to thank our students, their parents and families who have played a role in supporting us, involving games, food, a few gifts from us, and of course thanks!

Whilst we couldn’t invite everyone who has supported us over the last 5 years, we do want to thank all our karate friends and supporters who have helped, advised, trained, taught and generally been our cheerleaders for the last 5 years.

Here’s to many more years of White Rose Budo, and thank you to all who have been a part of our journey so far.
